How to walk in the Ramp

“ Practice makes a man Perfect ”- simple and is applicable in all scenarios.

Walking a ramp is nothing but sheer practice. Trust me, practicing ramp walk is fun. Walking ramp is the technique that requires inner and outer calibre of the model. You need to walk perfect with confidence. Inner confidence, good body language and impressive personality are all required to charm the audience. If you aspire to be a Model, Here are my personal Walk the Ramp tips from my Modelling days-

1 Body Posture- Stand straight and tall without bending your back or shoulders. Keep your back as straight as possible. Your shoulders should be slightly stretched behind. This will give you a straight posture. Practice this posture so that you look comfortable and natural while walking the ramp. Keep your arms hanging on the sides and hands natural. Your hands should be half open and fingers bent beautifully

2. Head & Face Expression- Keep your face straight ie, 90 degrees to the ground. Don’t hang or droop your head. Your head should not look stiff and you can change the head angle as per the audience. If the Ramp is too high and the audience is on a lower level, you need to bend your head a little so that you can look towards the audience. Avoid smiling as you can’t distract audience from the product by smiling. The product is the King here. However, in Beauty Pageants smiling is a must. You need to decide as per the event.
3. Focused Eyes- Your eyes are the reflection of your inner state. If you are nervous or confused, it will show in your eyes. So the best is to keep your eyes fixed on a point ahead of you. Do not look around, it might distract you. You should be able to see 180 degrees while walking and be aware of the activities around but do not get distracted.

4. Walk & Heels- On ramp, start walking with your Left foot first. Put your left foot in front of the right foot. This makes your hips swing and gives the perfect model look. If you feel that keeping one foot in front of other is difficult, you can cheat a little by keeping foot in slight angular manner. Walk straight and ensure not to trip. Get into the rhythm of the loud music and feel the uplifting motivation. When a natural bounce to the beat happens, add it to your walk by thinking about holding your head high and keeping your shoulders back.
5. Attitude & Confidence- This is the most important part of the ramp walk. Your body posture and face should be straight and natural. Your walk should look effortless for which you need to practice the walk till you achieve perfection. You can keep your head slight higher which will give attitude to your look/walk. Don’t get confused and practice the runway thoroughly.

6. Strike Pose- Every model has her favourite pose for the Head and the Mid Ramp. When you reach the head ramp/runway, strike a pose with your arms on your waist, hips out and bend on one side. Ensure that your body curves are visible impressively. You need to master 3-4 different poses and give different pose everytime on the ramp.

7. Walk Back- Once you strike a pose, you have to walk back by turning behind with your leg first then your body and lastly ,your head. That means you will walk behind with focused eyes and face for the longest time possible.

I hope all these tips will add value to your Walk on the ramp.
